Readers of the Journal will have formed their own opinions about whether Harold Bourne's response to James Taylor and Alec McGuire's concerns about his previous clinical paper exhibited further homophobia/heterophilia (BJP 20(4): 571-572). They may have found the penultimate paragraph of his letter particularly enlightening on this point.
However, Bourne's summary dismissal of Foucault and other (unspecified) ‘political thinkers’ as ‘without authority and irrelevant’ in thinking about the distinction between health and pathology should not go unchallenged in a learned journal.
