Jenny Pearson has put together a fine collection of essays and memoirs about Charles Rycroft - that most intellectually disciplined, creative and indeed most famous British psychoanalyst of the last third of the twentieth century. Pearson, a psychotherapist herself and Charles Rycroft's wife for the last 20 years of his life, has admirably met the challenge of giving us emotionally honest and engaged portraits of Rycroft while at the same time succeeding in creating the distance necessary to give us a clear picture of the continued relevance of Rycroft's work and contributions to psychoanalysis.
