Notes on Contributors

Susanna Abse is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in practice for over thirty years. She is the current Chair of the British Psychoanalytic Council; past CEO of Tavistock Relationships from 2006 to 2016; series co-editor of The Library of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis for Routledge; and has written widely on relationships, parenting, and family policy. She is currently preparing a book for Ebury Press to be published in the summer of 2021.

Andrew Balfour trained as a clinical psychologist at University College London and as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in the Adult Department at the Tavistock Clinic. He trained as a couple psychotherapist while working at Tavistock Relationships, where he was clinical director, becoming chief executive, a post he has held since 2016.

Gael Beckett, MA Clinical Psychology, practises as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with adult individuals and couples in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has worked in university, hospital, community, and school settings, as well as professionally contributing to the development of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in South Africa and to psychoanalytic couple therapy in Johannesburg.

Leora Benioff, PhD, has a private practice in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, couple psychotherapy, and consultation in Berkeley, California. She is a member and faculty both at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and the Psychoanalytic Couple Psychotherapy Group. She is a North American representative on the IPA Committee on Couple and Family Psychoanalysis (COFAP).

Maureen Boerma, MSc, is former Director of Training at Tavistock Relationships, London, where she also worked as a couple psychoanalytic psychotherapist, supervisor, clinical seminar leader, and tutor. She has a background in sexual and reproductive health and in community mediation, as well as a being a qualified psychosexual therapist at LMG.
