Several facets of the personality of Henri Rey are reflected in his Universals of Psychoanalysis: a rigorous scientist, an original thinker, a hopeful clinician, a passionate teacher, and a courageous and warm human being. Many of us in Montreal who have had the good fortune to benefit from Henri Rey's teaching as a visiting professor during several winter months would thoroughly agree with John Steiner's statement in his foreword to the book:
“Until now the work of Henri Rey has been less known than it should be, and it is hoped that this book will enable a wider public to become acquainted with some of the most original and creative ideas to be found in the interface between psychoanalysis, psychiatry and other disciplines.”
