The backdrop of this paper is the dissymmetry of the positions held by the analyst and the analysand, as a condition of the psychoanalytic cure. There can be no analysis between people who agree with (understand/hear) each other. The mere commonality of language between the two protagonists is a primary obstacle rather than an asset. Clinical references evoke moments when the most common becomes the most foreign, when what is understood cannot be heard. There are no a priori forms of psychic life, and no psychic forms that don't have a genesis. Analysis can sometimes be a revival or an invention of these forms. “Analysis is meant to lead to dead angles.”
