The paper examines some features of signal anxiety as distorted in a case of traumatic infantile sexual seduction. A clinical vignette first shows how a symptom, suicidal ideation, is seen as a late offshoot of earlier problems and understood as a screen affect to tame the experience of anxiety. The symptom is taken as an obsessional fear following fragile ego organization; it is based on transformation of affect. Transferential movements are described and traced to basic identifications making conspicuous such transformation. A clinical discussion points out afterwards how that symptom works as signal anxiety from the economical point of view under the primacy of substituted affect rather than that of subtituted representation. Some theoretical propositions are finally presented to explore and understand how such a type of psychic operation might require the erotization of anxiety
and some internalization of the seduction within psychic agencies in the working of the super ego and ego. Some scars are noted: a geyser-like activity, a peculiar vitality, and a corruption of the superego. A general outline of the differences between signal anxiety and traumatic anxiety anchors the discussion.
