It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Elmor Smit, a co-founder and the first Director of the Vancouver Institute of Psychoanalysis. He was dedicated to the establishment, growth and expansion of psychoanalysis in Vancouver and did not spare any effort in devoting himself to this life dream of his. He died January 17, 2009 in an extended care facility after a long illness. The CJP will publish a full obituary in its forthcoming issue.

C'est avec une grande tristesse et un profond chagrin que nous devons vous faire part du décès du premier directeur et cofondateur de l'institut de Vancouver, le docteur Elmor Smit. Docteur Smit a consacré une partie de sa vie à l'instauration, au développement et à l'expansion de la psychanalyse à Vancouver. Il n'a épargné aucun effort pour atteindre ce rêve important dans sa vie. Il est décédé le 17 janvier, dans un centre de soins palliatifs, après une longue maladie. La RCP lui rendra hommage dans son prochain numéro, à l'automne 2009.
