Distinguishing between ethics and morality on psychodynamic grounds, this paper explores aspects of the analytic stance and technique that resemble ethical reflection as opposed to moral judgment and rule-making. The idea of an intrinsic psychoanalytic ethics is explored, especially with respect to Freud's thoughts on the dynamics of humour and Money-Kyrle's discussion of “normal” counter-transference.
