We are pleased to introduce for a second time the section on Psychoanalytic Bridges with Latin America. In this number we will be presenting a paper written by Rosa Jaitin: an introduction to the life and the work of Enrique Pichon-Rivière—one of the most important and influential founders of psychoanalysis in Argentina and Latin America. His work introduced original ideas regarding the concept of mental illness, of pychoanalytic treatment, of the concept of the individual, and of the creative process.
Rosa Jaitin originates from Argentina. She lives in Lyon, France, where she works as a psychoanalyst as well as family and couples therapist. She is a member of the Fourth Group (Le quatrième groupe) and of the Société Française de Thérapie Familiale Psychanalytique and of l'Association Internationale de psychanalyse de couple et de famille. She is also associate professor at the University of Paris Descartes.
Some of her publications include Clínica grupal de ninos (Clinical Work in Groups with Children), ; Aprendizaje, juego y placer (Learning, Playing, and Pleasure), ; Apoyos grupales en la crianza infantile (Group Supports in the Upbringing of Children), ); and Clinique de l'inceste fraternel (Treatment of Sibling Incest), .
Rosa Jaitin has been profoundly influenced by Pichon-Rivière's work. She had the privilege of training and working with him for many years, until his death. We are pleased to have her present to our Canadian readers highlights of some of his most important concepts. In her paper she describes life events that affected him profoundly and influenced his curiosity
