The paper presents Jean Laplanche's theory of generalized seduction. It describes the key concepts of this theory: the translation model of repression, the fundamental anthropological situation, and the origin of the sexual drive. It insists on the specific definition of infantile sexuality in Laplanche's work and underlines the main features that, from an epistemological as well as an axiological perspective, distinguishes his theory from other psychoanalytic orientations. It also emphasizes what gives this theory special significance for understanding the clinical situation and of its modes of action.
