The following papers were first presented at a conference in Santiago, Chile, November 2014, hosted by the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysts and Psychotherapists. The conference theme was “Drives and Fields: Are Drive Theory and Intersubjectivity Incompatible?” Working as a group, and through a felicitous division of labour, the presenters mapped a large territory—from three different angles whose combination produced a holographic effect. This achievement of conceptual three-dimensionality seemed to reflect something about the genius of Latin-American psychoanalysis and culture—what Juan Tubert-Oklander (2014, p. 87) has called mestization.
