In presenting the following texts, we wish to acknowledge our appreciation for the contributions of Drs. Michel Grignon, Joyce Canfield, and Brian Robertson, who have made the Infant Observation Seminar possible. The infant observation course is organized around weekly two-hour seminars. We were each expected to find a young mother in the early postpartum months willing to let us visit for an hour, weekly, over the first year of the baby's life. The understanding was that during each visit, we should confine our activities as much as possible to observation of the baby and whatever was going on around the baby. We were then to write up a weekly report and to share these observations with members of our group on a rotating basis.
