The profusion of books on Bion's work, which seems to increase with time (e.g., Civitarese, 2017), is some measure of how influential it has become in the four decades since his death. This book is one of a series of educational texts describing the work of some of the most influential analytic theorists (e.g., Quinodoz, 2005; Rustin & Rustin, 2017; Caldwell & Joyce, 2011). The texts in this series are outstanding summaries of the work of each author, its place in the development of psychoanalytic thought, the non-psychoanalytic influences on the author's work and the latter's place in the intellectual history of its time, and the author's influences by and on other psychoanalytic authors' work. This book is no exception. Vermote offers much information about Bion's life, and his work expressed in a very inviting fashion in this relatively short volume.
