The International Federation of Psychoanalytic Societies, of which our psychoanalytic society is a member, is sponsoring an International Forum for Psychoanalysis to be held in Zurich next summer. A meeting of four days is scheduled on the topics: psychosomatic medicine, aggression in psychoanalytic theory and practice, obsessional neurosis, and new developments in psychoanalysis. Dr. Gerald Chrzanowski of our society is chairman of the International Forum Committee.
The federation is also publishing its first book, The International Yearbook for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, priced at $5.00.
The National Institute of Mental Health has made a grant of $120, 000 over the next three years to the institute's research department to conduct a study on the prevention of mental illness entitled "The Therapeutic Effectiveness of Individualized Teaching." The principal investigator in this research is Martin Kohn, Ph.D., of our research department. This is particularly gratifying in that Dr. Kohn has been a research student at the institute for several years.
The institute has awarded its NIMH grants for two post-doctoral fellowships in psychotherapy for psychologists to Helen Kafka, Ph.D., and William O'Donnell, Ph.D. The Harry Scherman Foundation grants have been awarded to Martin Shepard, M.D., formerly chief resident in psychiatry of the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, and Mikihachiro Tatara, M.D., an assistant professor and staff member of the Psychological Clinic of the University of Kyoto in Japan.
Dr. Edgar Levenson, director of the Young Adult Treatment Service and chief investigator, College Dropout Project, presented his research findings to the Association of American College Physicians and Psychiatrists at its annual meeting in Denver last May.
