Psychoanalytic supervision like psychoanalytic treatment, is concerned with issues of transference, countertransference, and identification. In treatment the interaction is two-way, in supervision it is three-way, involving the patient, the student, and the supervisor. Several examples of this point of view are cited, and supervision is related to family interaction and to normal growth and development.
