WE CHERISH ERNEST'S MEMORY for what he conveyed to us.
He was a man of keen insights and of the greatest integrity.
Burdened with a frail constitution, he was forced to deal with aspects of life which, for most of us, never become a problem at all.
He developed a special sensitivity and responsiveness to phenomena we fail, for the most part, to perceive. Thinking and studying were at the very center of his life.
His was a genuinely original mind.
Saddened as we are by his loss, he leaves us enriched by his many contributions.—ANYA GOUREVITCH
I DO THINK ERNEST WAS just about the most cultivated, cultured and literary (in the best sense) member of this group, at least that I've met, and I had great admiration and affection for him.
I think that his book "Metamorphosis" is a beautiful job of "revising" Freud—to the point of implicitly contradicting his views—on childhood growth, on the whole meaning of human development as put in a positive and beneficial and hopeful light.
