ERWIN SINGER RECEIVED HIS CERTIFICATE in psychoanalysis from the William Alanson White Institute in January 1956. He became a faculty member in 1958, a training and supervisory analyst and Fellow in 1968. He served the Fellows well as a member of the Nominating Committee. He leaves behind a legacy of admired writings, enriched students, enhanced analysands, and grateful colleagues.
My first contact with Erwin was in 1967. He, Bernie Kalinkowitz, and I spent time together discussing the desirability and feasibility of a university affiliation for the Institute. Erwin's intelligence, candor, and humor were apparent in these discussions. This was the beginning of a number of conversations between us about various Institute matters. I found him generous with time, ideas, and money. He introduced a number of his friends to the Institute; they have since become generous supporters.
