DAVID E. SCHECTER WAS APPOINTED training analyst at the William Alanson White Institute in 1962 and supervising analyst in 1967; he was director of training from 1970 to 1974. And he was more than a psychoanalyst. An accomplished musician (he played with the Westchester Symphony), and outstanding researcher and teacher, he brought to the profession a broad intellectual background and passion, as well as his own unique blend of acceptance and quiet seriousness. His attempts at times to reconcile the irreconcilable and at other times to seek out inherent contradictions made him a stimulating teacher on the one hand and a seemingly remote person as well on the other. He held a special place in the hearts of the editors of this Journal whom he encouraged generously and consistently. To the memory of his searching attitude toward life, this issue is dedicated.
