THE EDITORS MOURN THE PASSING of Helen Ekstein, who had served this Journal (among her many responsibilities at the William Alanson White Institute) since its inception. This she accomplished diligently, with that special, smiling grace for which she was well known. She handled all the Journal's editorial correspondence, kept the records of manuscripts received, and organized the cover, contents, index and books-received pages. This issue was the last on which she worked. Since she was the Journal's direct link to authors, mailing acceptance and rejection notices, in a sense she was the Journal's public representative. And she acquitted this task pleasantly, eagerly and expertly. She was the Journal's most avid fan and supporter with constant energetic efforts on its behalf, especially in the warm, friendly way she carried out her endless tasks. No longer will the answering machine announce sweetly, "It's Helen … there's a nice letter from that man in South Dakota. Call when you have time." And no longer will we think, "I'll call Helen Monday morning to find out what happened to that manuscript." With her direct, altruistic, vivacious, yet gentle style, she secured a permanent place in our hearts.
