ROSE SPIEGEL, IN A distinguished career as doctor and psychoanalyst, has fulfilled our profession's highest expectations. Her range of interests, as evidenced in her vitality and her voluminous publications, is as broad as it is profound. She has been for us the consummate student and leader. As meticulous annotator of clinical data, as researcher, as historian and innovator, as healer and as visionary teacher, she has given special emphasis to our appreciation of dedication, our search for truth and especially our experience of hope.
