I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD to hearing Dr. Michels' paper and I have not been disappointed. I have known him long enough to know that I would agree with much, if not all of what he had to say.
Dr. Michels' paper is an impressionistic work, and reflects years of thinking and hard work in forming a coherent framework on the issue of psychoanalysis, its ammendations and addenda.
Dr. Michels has included so many things in his paper that almost every sentence can serve as a starting point for discussion. I read his paper three times, just like in the Polish Sejm—the Polish parliament—where one had to read any bill three times and vote on it each time. When we were students we applied this to ourselves, and thus knew when we were ready for our exams. So after my third reading of this essay, I think I understood this many faceted paper.
