THIS IS THE BEGINNING of a true beginning and not the beginning of the end. In a profession where uncertainty, more often than not, is a concept of value to be ultimately conveyed to and accepted by the patient yet, as often, there is a preoccupation with the "right interpretation", if not with the theory that spells out a wished for but elusive definitiveness, let alone finality, it is refreshing indeed that an analyst would have the courage, trust and hope to present the situation of an "analytic stalemate". It is, also, a challenge and a matter of earnestness and interest to have a series of colleagues, intimately involved in the process of analysis, and variously influenced by or liberated from conflicting or converging theoretical concerns present their reactions. Much to our collective delight and edification here is an exchange and an interaction that should highlight appreciation of differences while minimizing exclusivity, all in the service of our clinical and therapeutic work.
