IT REMAINS MY GOOD FORTUNE to have experienced Erich Fromm in a succession of roles, beginning several years before the founding of the William Alanson White Institute, for which he was an important inspiration.
There is one essence from him that continues to serve me in my private orientation to life and that I share with others, especially with those it is my privilege to serve—it is, "Honor Life, including your own." And that is implicit in the title and content of his book, " Man For Himself."
Along with this essence is Fromm's encyclopedic knowledge—of philosophy, literature, politics, sociology, religion—indicated in the range of the titles of his books, which culminated in 1973 in " The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness."
