To summarize: A certain interpersonal transaction, occurring in dyads, has been noted. Schematically, A induces B to experience X, where X is an experience unwanted by A. A achieves this by using a variety of subtle and complex interpersonal maneuvers. Intrapsychically A uses the defense mechanisms of identification with the aggressor which gives A an increased sense of mastery and assignment to the other which rids his conscious self of the unwanted experience. In a therapy context, the analyst (B) has deliberately made himself vulnerable to the induction of such unwanted experiences by his patient (A). He can usefully "give the experience" back to the patient through interpretation, and if possible put it in context.
