The author, a young Chinese-born psychoanalyst and physician, presents her analytic work with a 91-year-old Jewish-American man who had been living with a “fear of death” for almost five decades. The author addresses her own struggle with countertransference related to both ageand cultural-differences as well as the “physician versus analyst” dilemma.
