Lois Oppenheim has offered us a very complete analysis of Samuel Beckett's creative work. We shared with her his huge suffering, his craziness connected to his family history, and his incredible energy in writing. I discuss two points in particular: Oppenheim's hypothesis that trauma was the cause of Samuel Beckett's troubles and the influence on his writing of his experience with psychoanalysis.
