Jung was fascinated by many aspects of the uncanny and described them from the psychological perspective that he developed. For example, he saw the uncanny in elements of the occult, in the occurrence of synchronicity, and in the way that everyday complexes of the psyche go bump in the night. Common to all of these is that the unconscious itself has a prospective and intelligent aspect, and when this cannot be attributed to the ego, that is just what we mean by the uncanny. That is, something happens mysteriously without our intention, but with purpose and apparent action at a distance.
