Ten Years! That’s how long Susan Fabrick and Ruth Livingston have been co-editors-in-chief of Contemporary Psychoanalysis.1
And what an astonishing time in history! We’ve watched the United States and the world change, including major shifts brought on by the 2016 presidential election, the #MeToo era, the COVID pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision revoking abortion (Roe vs. Wade), the rise of right-wing populism, and the 2024 presidential election (with all its twists and turns).
It’s been a challenge—a dance, really—to keep up, all the while tending to our mission to provide readers with a broad array of content from new and returning voices. In these 10 years, as before, the focus of Contemporary Psychoanalysis has been on publishing articles that highlight new perspectives on theoretical ideas and clinical work in this “impossible” profession. Especially in this decade’s turbulent times, we’ve also featured psychoanalytic reflections on current events and considered psychoanalytic history. Sadly, we’ve lost some giants in the interpersonal psychoanalytic world; we’ve honored them in our pages.
Below, some highlights of these 10 years of co-editor-ship, which have included several special issues and sections devoted to important developments and topics. (Much gratitude in this decade goes to the guest editors and panel organizers who chose authors and set the tone for many of these special issues/sections: Max Belkin, David Braucher, Rande Brown, Meredith Darcy, Sue Grand, Elizabeth Howell, Sheldon Itzkowitz, Lois Oppenheim, Jill, Salberg, Pascal Sauvayre, Sarah
