The ‘Cure’. The term has a considerable history germane to the topic on which I wish to embark …
Considering the matter in greater width, it would seem that this term has affiliations with certain people and certain disciplines. Most of us are familiar with it in the context of medicine. In England it is often employed, as in the phrase ‘cure of souls’, as delineating a particular domain of religious activity: priests have been – sometimes still are – actively concerned in aspects of the cure of souls in a ‘therapeutic’ sense. I remember one such person causing some debate in the psychoanalytic establishment in the days when I was part of it.
