The latest issue of Free Associations is the last in its present format. The journal will change to a larger format and semiannual frequency, although the number of words per annum will stay approximately the same. So, in the summer we are going to have a re-launch to which subscribers will be invited.
In future there will be frequent extensive interviews with interesting figures in the psychoanalytic world. We will also have regular reviews, not only of books but also of web sites, and lists of books received and noted. We hope to commission overviews of work in various fields by people well-suited to write them. As always, we welcome work in a variety of formats and styles. One of the things we pride ourselves on is that the journal accepts originality and strongly held views in any form that they turn up.
The way the world is going, there is now, even more than when the journal was launched in 1985, a crying need for voices independent of vested interests that are upholding liberal values and speaking out for integrity in the world of therapy and in analytic approaches to groups, institutions, and wider issues in culture and society. The space for such outspokenness is shrinking all the time.
We are offering with every new or renewed subscription a book containing a collection of classic articles from the journal. The first will be on ‘Film’.
The new subscription rates are very fair in today's market; we also offer student and concessionary rates. Bulk subscriptions are also available, so please support us by encouraging friends to subscribe or by getting a group together — colleagues, students, or members of your professional organization.
