Joyce Schema: An Exercise for Analytic Supervision

It is difficult for me to imagine a time past when psychoanalysis did not exist. How complicated it is to visualize a world lacking the profound theoretical and clinical concepts that only psychoanalysis has the capacity to create; but how much more disturbing to think that, in those moments that fortunately are now the domain of a time-long-gone, there was not, in the palette of the different types of human bonds, the analytical relationship. Therefore, I think at times, of all those who did not know it and who did not have the opportunity to experience it; and, when thinking on them, I become grateful for the good fortune of having been born after Freud's discovery of psychoanalysis, for in this way, I have had, and will have, the pleasure of experiencing the affective depth of the: “(…) analytic relationship and the analytic supervisory relationship.” (Ogden, 2009, p. 31). And so, thanks to the emergence of psychoanalysis, and the forms of human relationship that came with it, the long awaited and much needed human immersion into the world of dreams, of those dreamt at night and day –since, as Bion and Bionian Field Theory (BFT) have pointed out to us, dreams know not of time– arrived in the world. For all this and more it can be said that Freud, with his unmistakable brilliance, created two types of human relationships as part of the development of his theory (Ogden, 2009). Those who have the good fortune to conform this style of bonding are known by a name that invites to the plural: “Freudian Pair” (Bollas, 2008, p. 9).

And if we speak of a Freudian Couple, perhaps we should also speak of a Bionian Pair/Group, considering that the present time of psychoanalysis succeeds what it was, and therefore, new forms of analytical encounters have appeared.
