We have concluded the first half of the Study Group for Associate Members. The group is focused on understanding the concept of perversion from a characterological perspective, across a range of psychoanalytic theoretical orientations. So far we have studied the classical Freudian texts with Maria St. John, MFT; the Kleinian perspective with Annie Sweetnam, Ph.D.; and the Middle School perspective with Vivan Dent, Ph.D. We are now exploring the Lacanian perspective with Mardi Ireland, Ph.D., and will finish with a case conference with Eileen Keller, Ph.D.
This has been a fascinating and thought-provoking program, and we appreciate the efforts of the committee, including Tom Cicciarelli, Ph.D.; Sunny Kuegle, M.A.; Tara Rech, Ph.D.; and Robin Silverman, Ph.D.
Associate Member Homay King, C. Phil., winner of the 1999 student paper award, recently presented her fascinating paper. “All the Shapes We Make: The Passenger's Flight from Formal Stagnation,” which was discussed by Kaja Silverman, Ph.D., and was followed by a lively discussion. We are looking forward to the process of selecting this year's student paper award.
