It is with great pleasure, excitement, and a healthy dose of anxiety that I take over as the new Editor of fort da. In sitting down to write this column, I remembered the first editorial meeting I was invited to, and how the combination of good wine, food, humor, thoughtfulness, and professionalism (not necessarily in that order!) engaged my spirit. And yet, in spite of the ease with which we met and culled together the necessary articles for each issue, there was always a nagging thought: Are we actually going to be able to get a journal together? Is this all there is to it? Clearly there is more to it, as I came to realize that fort da is more than the sum of its parts. It galvanized each of us, and I think brought out the best in all of us, so much so that what began as a newsletter some eight years ago is now a fully fledged journal.
At this point of transition, I look forward to fort da vitalizing its new editorial board members. Simultaneously, I want to offer thanks, appreciation, and best wishes to those board members who are leaving to pursue new adventures, perhaps even to allocate some time to read without the need for a red editing pen!
We will miss you and each of your unique contributions. Staying on with me is Eileen Keller, who now takes the honor of the ‘old timer’ on the board; we are saying good-bye to Annie Sweetnam, our fearless leader over the past three years; Barbara Artson, who scanned the globe for contributors to fort da and simultaneously took over the task of book and film review editor; and, last but not least, Joe Bobrow, who kept us aware of the connection between psychoanalysis and other disciplines, especially religion.
The departures of Annie, Barbara, and Joe have created a space for some new blood, and hopefully we can continue and expand the tradition of fort da. I want to warmly welcome our new board members, Patricia Marra, Adam Kremen, and Tara Rech; I look forward to what we will create as the new editorial boa
