This spring the Education Committee presented courses on a wide variety of psychoanalytic topics, including Middle School perspectives on perversion, impasse and encapsulation; contemporary views on hysteria and eating disorders; and a course on supervision. We are very excited about our program for Fall 2001-Spring 2002. In our attempts to meet the needs of our members, we are offering two courses that are required for psychologists (in a way that is as painless as possible, we hope): “Legal and Ethical Issues for the Psychoanalytically Oriented Clinician,” taught by Susana Winkel, Ph.D., and “The Supervisory Interaction: A Contemporary Psychodynamic Approach,” taught by Jane Burka, Ph.D., and Joan Sarnat, Ph.D. (This course is required for those who supervise.) Other courses will be “Contemporary Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Eating Disorders,” taught by Susan Sands, Ph.D. (back by popular demand); Neil Talkoff, Ph.D., will teach “Subjectivity, Objectivity and Psychoanalytic Technique: Working in the Intersubjective Space”; Drs. Jeanne Wolff Bernstein, Diane Ehrensaft, and Maureen Murphy will teach a seminar, “Assaults on Oedipus: New Medical Technologies and the Family”; and Shelly Nathans, Ph.D., will teach “Psychoanalytic Couples Therapy.” We also have a visiting, psychoanalytically informed, art historian, Rico Franses, Ph.D., who will lead an art tour of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Though we don't yet have a date, in the near future, our committee will present an event co-sponsored with the Children's Psychotherapy Project. The topic will be “Intergenerational Transmission of Trauma.” Teachers will be Toni Vaughn Heineman, D.M.H.; Alicia Lieberman, Ph.D.; Harvey Peskin, Ph.D.; and Stephen Seligman, D.M.H.
