This first year of my tenure as Treasurer for NCSPP was made immeasurably easier with the help of Annemieke de Jong, Ph.D., the outgoing Treasurer, and Michele McGuinness, our most competent Administrative Assistant. Dr. de Jong handed over the books with a detailed set of instructions for the performance of my tasks, and Michele McGuinness has quickly adapted to the new bookkeeping program, allowing us to give rapid and detailed information to each Board Member about income and expenses on a monthly basis.
There have been two changes in our financial methodology this past year. The first, which began at the end of 2001, was to stagger membership renewal on an all year-round basis, rather than renew the entire membership in December. We navigated reasonably well through the changeover; from now on, we should have a smooth system of renewals that will even out the cash flow and make it easier for us to plan for the programs that we all want. Second, using a new software program, we created a much more detailed budget for this coming 2002-2003 fiscal year, and we were able to vote in a budget for the coming year in a much more timely manner. All of the committee heads were gracious enough to meet with me early in the year and we were able to hammer out a budget with ease. The accuracy of this reporting gives us the feedback and inspiration to try some new ideas and expand on the programs that really work.
We embark on this new fiscal year in good financial shape, as you can see from the report on the next page that summarizes income and expenses from July 1, 2001, to June 30, 2002. Thanks to all of you for your support.
