The first year for the Sacramento Valley Education Committee has been a period of tremendous growth and development. Our first Introductory Event was offered in the spring, entitled “Mourning and Desire: Working with Aliveness and Deadness in the Clinical Setting, ” featuring Jed Sekoff, Ph.D. It was a tremendous success with the attendance of 80 practitioners from our region.
As a result of our membership drive in the last year, we have grown from eleven to fifty-two members! Our committee members, Thomas Arizmendi, Ph.D., Eric Buck, MFT, and Nancy Kernick, Psy. D., have worked very hard to get the word out to our colleagues that we are seeking to form a local community of psychoanalytic thinkers who share the desire for continuing study and collaboration, open to all licensed mental health professionals, graduate students, and the lay public.
We are very excited about our Fall Event featuring James Grotstein, M. D., who will be speaking on “Projective Identification: Contemporary Perspectives in Theory and Practice” on October 19th, 2002, in Davis, California. Dr. Grotstein will also conduct a small group case seminar on the afternoon of Friday October 18th.
The Sacramento Committee is currently hard at work planning a number of possible continuing education offerings and a Spring Annual Event in 2003, featuring a noted speaker on contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which we will announce in the near future.
We want to thank Michele McGuinness for her tremendous support in helping us become a fully operational committee in less than a year. Past President Barbara Blasdel, Ph.D., and President Bart Magee, Ph.D., also deserve special thanks for their continued guidance in planning our future development.
