The Program Committee has the privilege of developing and providing community-wide programs for the advancement of psychoanalytic concepts and treatment. To that end, this year we were pleased to offer several events that we hope to continue into the future.
In February, NCSPP sponsored a Comparative Clinical Colloquium, which brought together three prominent clinicians—Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer, Ph.D., John Beebe, M.D., and Bruce Ecker, MFT—in a lively discussion of “What Is Healing in the Analytic Hour?,” moderated by Ken Meyer, Psy.D. Having the opportunity to hear well-articulated views from analysts representing diverse theoretical positions made for an unusual and illuminating experience.
In April, NCSPP hosted its 16th Annual Lecture, bringing eminent psychoanalyst Neville Symington from Sydney, Australia. Symington's humanistic personal style, combined with the delivery of his profound yet accessible paper, “Healing the Mind—What is the Process? What is the Healer's Task?,” created an exciting climate of clinical discovery. Discussant Marcia Cavell, Ph.D., and presenter Michael Horne, M.D., added their own unique perspectives on the material.
We are very pleased to announce that next year's Annual Lecture, which will be held on Sunday, April 25th, will bring Glen Gabbard, M.D., as our honored speaker. Dr. Gabbard is well known for his work on erotic transference/countertransference, as well as on popular literature ranging from love to “The Sopranos.”
The topic for the lecture is currently under discussion, but will no doubt be both entertaining and intellectually stimulating.
I would like to recognize and sincerely thank the members of the Program Committee for their high degree of dedication and mutual support. They are: Audrey Martin, M.A.; Bronwen Lemmon, MFT; Jeff Yost, MFT; Scott Manus, ACSW; Adam Beyda, MA; Nicole Lediard, LCSW; Ken Meyer, Psy.D.; and Janelle Eckhardt, MFT.
