Continuing NCSPP's tradition of offering an array of interesting courses, the San Francisco/East Bay Education Committee assembled a year of thoughtful and innovative classes and workshops. In the spring of 2003, Teresa Doyle, Ph.D., taught a well-received eight-week seminar titled “Conducting Psychotherapy with Neurodevelopmentally Atypical Children: An Integration of Psychoanalytic Theory and Neuropsychology.” And Suzanne Haas-Lyon, Ph.D., introduced a thought-provoking course called “Sibling Relationships and Transferences: Vital Yet Neglected.” We also offered three courses related to matters of the body: Maureen Murphy, Ph.D., taught “When Life Intrudes: Psychoanalytic Approaches to Medical Illness”; Deborah Melman, Ph.D., taught “Uses of the Body”; and Susan Sands, Ph.D., taught “Contemporary Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Eating Disorders.” We also presented a well-attended half-day conference titled “The Supervisory Interaction: A Contemporary Psychodynamic Approach,” led by Jane Burka, Ph.D., and Joan Ellen Sarnat, Ph.D., A.B.P.P.
Our committee is delighted to present an exciting Fall/Winter program with a variety of theoretical and clinical learning opportunities. Annie Sweetnam, Ph.D., is offering “Local Voices: A Look at the Work of Three Bay Area Analytic Theorists,” which will cover selected works of Ogden, Spezzano, and Goldberg. “Bion's Oedipus: A Guide to the Later Work of Wilfred Bion” will be taught by Lee Rather, Ph.D.; Eric Glassgold, M.D., will teach “Reclaiming Subjectivity: Psychotherapy with People Living with HIV/AIDS”; Stephanie Pass, Ph.D., and Jane Rubin, Ph.D., are teaming up to present a seminar entitled “Arousal, Regulation, and Sensory Processing: Implications for Adult Treatment”; “Psychoanalytic Couples Therapy” will again be taught by Shelley Nathans, Ph.D.; and, Michael Donner, Ph.D., will lead a half-day conference on law and ethics from a psychodynamic perspective.
We will start off the New Year with an evening presentation in Ja
