NCSPP's Intensive Study Group, co-sponsored with the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC), continues its tradition of presenting the rare opportunity to study a single topic or theory in an in-depth, yearlong study group. This year's return to Freud, in a course titled, “Living Freud's Death Drive: A Clinical and Cultural Exploration,” presents a controversial, yet inescapable, theoretical and clinical phenomenon. This ISG was again offered on both sides of the Bay, each of which was full to capacity within days of its publication. Outstanding local faculty for this study group include: Mardy Ireland, Ph.D.; Charles Spezzano, Ph.D.; Enid Young, Ph.D.; Michael Guy Thompson, Ph.D.; Jeanne Wolff Bernstein, Ph.D.; Ralph Kaywin, DMH; Jed Sekoff, Ph.D.; and Peter Goldberg, Ph.D. Kicking off the ISG and our training year is the annual Introductory Event, which this year features Freud author and scholar, Robert Weatherill from Dublin Ireland. Joining Mr. Weatherill in presenting and discussing the death drive are Ray Poggi, M.D., and Jed Sekoff, Ph.D.
The ISG and the Introductory Event could not exist without the tireless effort of the committee comprised of PINC Co-Chair Sue Saperstein, MFT; Rachel Cooke, Psy.D; Reyna Cowan, LCSW; Bronwen Lemmon, MFT; Karen Peoples, Ph.D.; Leslye Russell, MFT; and Jill Silverman, MFT.
