The South Bay Education Committee of 2003-2004 continued to offer programs designed to stimulate thinking and bring people into our local analytic community.
The South Bay year-long Intensive Study Group for this past year, On the Body: Forms and Expressions of Being, focused on various aspects of the mind/body conundrum. It was a very interesting and fruitful year, and we thank the faculty who worked so hard and, for the most part, traveled so far to offer this high-quality experience: Victor Bonfilio, Maureen Murphy, Beatrice Patsalides, Angela Sowa, Michael Guy Thompson, and Dana Wideman.
In addition, we held our Ninth Annual South Bay Symposium, in which Mardy Ireland and Sue von Bayer spoke on The Art of the Subject: Psychoanalytic Links Between the Individual and the Social Matrix. The symposium was well attended, and the topic generated a lively discussion among the participants.
We also offered several Saturday morning workshops on different topics. Psychotherapy and Medication: Multiple Levels of Working Together was a two-morning workshop: the first part, Biochemistry and Neurophysiology, was taught by Robert Fisher; and the second part, Clinical Implications, was taught by Richard Almond. Janis Baeuerlen presented a class entitled What Brings a Child to Treatment?, and Alan Kessler taught Father's Love. Finally, Charles Spezzano presented A Relational Casebook.
Looking ahead to the next academic year, we are pleased to be offering Finding Your Analytic Voice as our year-long Intensive Study Group. We are very excited and grateful to have the excellent talent who have agreed to come to us to teach. They are: Jeanne Wolff Bernstein, Barbara Blasdel, Victor Bonfilio, Bob Carrere, and Thomas Rosbrow.
