The Peninsula/South Bay Education Committee had a terrific year experimenting with new programs and building on its old. Looking back, every committee member contributed ideas, took on responsibilities, and helped to create meaningful and exciting programs.
The year-long Intensive Study Group for 2006-2007 was “Transforming Bion: The Bionian Development.” With the help of Dawn Farber, our ISG Sub-Committee mapped out Bion's theoretical life and contributions to the analytic world. Barbara Blasdel, Ivria Spieler, Lynn Alexander, Angela Sowa, and Annie Sweetnam did a superb job translating Bion into digestible thoughts.
“Mourning and Savage Melancholia” was the topic of our 13th Annual Symposium. Jed Sekoff was superb as he offered original analytic ideas on the unconscious formulation of revenge and savagery. Peter Goldberg, as discussant, helped translate these ideas into workable concepts for our clinical practices. Peter Klein and Dennis Facchino presented “Mate or Stalemate: Psychoanalytic Concepts in Couples Treatment” in the home of MJ Myatt. Francisco González presented “Cultura Cura: Culture and the Holding Environment in Clinical Work” in the home of Alison Cabell. Hugh Grubb presented a paper introducing the 2007-2008 ISG, “From Inspiration to Interpretation — Translating Influential Ideas into Meaningful Work” in the home of Tish Beyer. We were hugely successful in attracting new faces and establishing a stronger professional presence in
