The Membership Committee is made up of three new members this year: Jill Warburton, Stephen Sabin, and Shira Gallagher, as well as myself as new Chair. Our efforts have been directed toward two principal aims: developing new services for our existing membership and reaching out to potential new members.
In regard to new services, we've developed a plan to implement a “Members Only” section of our website that will include, among other things, a fully searchable member directory and a new & improved bulletin board service. Once these initial services are up and running, we plan to explore additional possibilities: Discussion areas? Referral service? We are excited about the possibilities afforded by this new “meeting place” for our membership.
The Committee has focused its outreach efforts thus far on graduate students and early career professionals. In March, Stephen Sabin represented NCSPP at his alma mater, California Institute of Integral Studies, in a talk aimed at helping students plan their careers, find assistantship and job opportunities, and begin a practice.
Turnout was strong with over 30 students present. Similar events are being planned (in conjunction with the Associate Member Committee) at the Wright Institute and California School of Professional Psychology for September and October. We expect to introduce NCSPP to well over 100 potential future members through these efforts. Discussions are underway to offer early career practitioners the opportunity to socialize and network.
