The Sacramento Valley Education Committee has an exciting and challenging year ahead. We are hosting two large events. October 24-25 brings Bill Cornell, MA, TSTA, to Sacramento. He will give a small case seminar and a large conference entitled “The Body's Knowledge: A Clinical and Practical Discussion of How to Make Use of Somatic Experience Within the Clinical Process.” Bill teaches in both the U.S. and Europe on this topic, and he has written extensively on incorporating ideas from other modalities focusing on somatic experience into psychoanalytic treatments.
Nancy McWilliams, Ph.D., will return March 13-14, 2009, to present “Contributions to Clinical Knowledge from Research on Attachment, Affect, and the Brain.” Her ability to articulate difficult concepts in easily understandable terms is remarkable, and she has been invited back by popular demand from our constituency.
SVEC continues to focus on outreach in our community, bringing in new and young clinicians. We are also forming liaisons with various graduate programs in the area, as well as the psychiatry department at the UCD Medical School.
Our most exciting news is that over the next year, SVEC will be transitioning to independent status from NCSPP, forming our own local chapter. Our last event with NCSPP will be the program with Nancy McWilliams She will head up a fundraiser for our new local chapter when she's here in March 2009, after which time we will be known as the “Sacramento Valley Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy” (SVAPP).

As part of NCSPP over the last eight years, we have developed to a point where we are ready for autonomy. I would like to thank the Board and the education committee for the time and energy they have put into our process and move to independence.
I also want to thank all of our committee members: Candence Little, Co-chair and an extraordinary facil
