The Pre-Licensed Clinicians (PLC) Committee creates opportunities for community building and professional development for pre-licensed clinicians interested in psychoanalytic theory. Student membership continues to increase within the organization, and committee events draw both new and established pre-licensed members.
The PLC committee hosted a variety of events this past year. Our twice-yearly Salons invite a senior clinician to engage in an interview with an audience of training clinicians. The most recent Salons featured Peter Goldberg and Diane Ehrensaft. Both clinicians explored with the audience their own journey into become established clinicians. Dr. Goldberg spoke about his theory of trauma and the current state of psychoanalytic thought. Dr. Ehrensaft focused on her more recent work with transgendered children and youth, providing a stimulating discussion for those in attendance. For our twice-yearly Movie Nights, where we show a film and discuss it from a psychoanalytic perspective, we screened Stanley Kubric's classic The Shining and a provocative film dealing with a convicted pedophile, The Woodsman. Our yearly outreach events at local graduate schools were targeted to the specific needs of students at each school and included free programs at Alliant International University, the California Institute of Integral Studies, John F. Kennedy University, and the Wright Institute. We also hosted several Happy Hour events and a Training Year Kick-off Picnic to encourage social networking between training and licensed clinicians.
As a reminder, in order to facilitate communication and professional relationships between student members of NCSPP, the PLC Committee has a student listserv that can be accessed at .
All of these professional development events would not be possible without the devoted student committee members who give their time, effort, and creativity: Leslie Carr, Heather LaBouy, Leig
