The Education Committee is excited for their Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 line-up of courses and workshops. This fall, Drew Tillotson will teach “Male Dilemmas: Masculinities, Eros, and the Unconscious.” Drawing upon contemporary theories and key concepts about the male psyche, his course will look clinically at the dynamics of treating the 21st-century man. Michael Zimmerman, a psychoanalyst and professor of literature, has provided NCSPP with a rich opportunity to read fiction closely and systematically for the past four years through his yearlong courses. The course will concentrate on themes of trauma, bisexuality, disaffiliation, disaffection, symbolism, and the human condition.
We are also pleased to announce a unique workshop, “Traversing Deep Waters: School-Based Psychotherapy,” featuring a panel of instructors (Audrey Dunn, Mahima Muralidharan, Kristen Carey, Elizabeth Milnes, and Rebecca Cannon), who will focus on the complexities of conducting psychotherapy in schools and the challenges of the supervisory relationship. Margaret Boucher will be the case presenter.
In “A Strange Mode of Being: The Work of Ignacio Matte Blanco,” Megan Rundel will integrate the psychoanalytic understanding of the unconscious with spiritual teachings, exploring emptiness, aggression, trauma, and shame. Carolina Bacchi will present on the art of working with parents in child therapy in “Unleashing and Taming the Beast,” to help practitioners work with parents and feel more grounded and comfortable in parenthood.
