In this second year of my term as Chair of the Membership Committee my committee members and I continued to work hard to find ways to provide NCSPP members with a sense of community — a “professional home” for clinicians passionate about psychoanalytic ideas. Our committee made monthly calls to our new members to welcome them to our community and to those who are up for renewal to remind them how much their membership is valued. We've also enjoyed attending many events this year where we welcomed our current members, encouraged attendees to join NCSPP, and offered information and answered questions about membership and the organization. We administered a new member benefit that offers our licensed members one pro bono consultation meeting per year with a participating senior clinician (visit ncspp.org in the “members services” area for more details). Feedback from those who participated was positive and enthusiastic. We look forward to connecting more of our members through this consultation member benefit, to hearing about their experiences, and to finding ways to make this member benefit as rewarding and useful as possible.
This year NCSPP has dedicated time and effort toward developing ideas that will encourage further diversity in our membership so that it better reflects the tremendous diversity the mental health treatment community of the Bay Area. We are currently exploring ways to reach out to our psycho-analytically minded Bay Area colleagues who have not yet found a home for their theoretical and clinical interests.
Finally, I want to honor the generous volunteer contributions of my committee members, without whom I could not continue this work: Aggie Quinn, Cate Corcoran, Carrie Evendon, Catherine Ferreira-Babor, and Charmaine Ehrhart. We all look forward to serving NCSPP's membership and we hope to see you at many upcoming events!
