The Education Committee is proud to report on this past spring's 2013 courses. “Discovering Fundamental Principles in Psychoanalysis” is off to a great start, and our first course on Freud, “From Traumatic Injury to the Dynamic Unconscious: The Making of the Psychoanalytic Method,” instructed by Bob Bartner, was well received. One participant stated that the course “provided an opportunity to think more deeply about the central concepts in psychoanalytic thinking. The class increased my understanding of these central (but often overlooked) tenets as well as helped me apply them to my clinical practice.” This fall our series will continue with Freud, “From Oral to Oedipal: The Drama of Infantile Sexuality.”
Courses such as “Adolescent Breakdowns,” “Hemingway,” “Taming the Beast,” “Matrices,” and “Modes of Being,” taught by a number of our well-regarded local faculty and newcomers, were appreciated by the attendees.
Enthusiasts consistently acknowledged their appreciation at being given an opportunity to explore in-depth theory as they grappled with the clinical dilemmas that present themselves in the work.
I want to acknowledge and thank my committee members for their ability to dream aloud psychoanalytic themes of interest to our community. Much gratitude goes out to Morgan Lloyd, a former Education Member, who was instrumental in launching our fundamental series. We will miss you; thank you for your tireless work. We welcome our newest members, Demetry Apostle and Ankhesenamun Ball, and many thanks to our returning members, Tessamarie Capitolo and Elise Geltman. You are all instrumental to our success! The committee's zest for playing with words, ideas, and thinking strengthens our efforts in providing solid programming.
