I began my term as Editor-in-Chief of the Impulse newsletter this year. I would like to thank Matthew Morrisey, who held the position before me, for leaving me with a great staff and a smooth process. Impulse began in 2005 as “an integrative source for local news, events, and thinking of interest to the psychoanalytically inclined,” in the words of Francisco Gonzalez, the President of NCSPP at the time. However, even at its inception, Impulse emphasized the “thinking” in its offerings. Today, Impulse reaches over 1800 people in the Bay Area and beyond. Appointment Book, Event Spotlight, and Piece of Mind inform us of what events are happening in the Bay Area, while the Psychoanalysis in the News feature keeps tabs on what is happening on a broader scale. Potential Space publishes original writing from our staff writers, and the President's Remarks and NCSPP Corner give NCSPP itself a voice to inform the greater community.
Joining the Impulse committee this year is Jessica Selvin, our new Features Editor. I would like to thank our other editors, who continue to give their time and energy to put the newsletter together each month: Shlomit Gorin, Managing Editor; Adam Blum, Potential Space Editor; and Ripple Patel, Psychoanalysis in the News Editor. Our staff writers are Lorrie Goldin, Mark McKinley, Jane Reingold, and Suzanne Stambaugh, who provide the thoughtful essays featured every month. Last but not least, many thanks to Michele McGuinness, who does much of the actual work to put Impulse together.
