The Education Committee provides workshops, courses, and seminars that strive to bring psychoanalytic teachings to life, highlighting the value of analytic thinking in our clinical consulting rooms between psychotherapist and patient, supervisor and supervisee, and in our community at large.
During the past year, we offered programming that set us apart. Our foundations series continued with an in-depth study on Freud, “From Oral to Oedipal: The Drama of Infantile Sexuality” and “The Oedipal Complex: A Clinician's Guide to the Central Psychoanalytic Paradigm.” In the fall we offered courses entitled “Presence, Absence, and Dread,” “Writing as ‘Coming into Being,’” and “Are You My Mother? Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in the Adoption Constellation.” Our spring teachings included hot topics such as “Distant Learning: Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy by Phone and Skype,” “Bion and the Movies: The Matrix and Beta-Mentality,” as well as “Too Hot to Handle? Fear of Facing Erotic Feeling in the Clinical Setting.”
Our valued instructors continue to foster an optimal environment for learning and reflection. This environment enhances the applicability of analytic thinking to our daily practices and offers opportunities to develop and maintain a community that supports and challenges us for the greater good of mental health.
This year, our programs will feature “Family Romance in the Countertransference: Working with Parents,” “Clinical Experiences of Negative Representation in the Consulting Room,” and “Working in the Silence.” Our foundations series will build a bridge between traditional psychoanalytic teaching and Jungian Analysis in “The Intertwined: An Exploration of the Development of Jungian Analysis,” and then shift toward the teachings of Melanie Klein. We hope you will continue to find our programs exceptional and intriguing as well as practical.
I want to thank my fellow committee members Elise Geltman, Demetry Apostle, and Ankhesenamun Ball for their tire
