As we kick off another exciting year, I challenge each of us to reflect on what it means to be a part of the NCSPP community. I am humbled to be the incoming 28th president of NCSPP, which I consider my professional home and a place to enjoy mentorship, camaraderie, and a sense of support and belonging. Within this space, I feel free to share progressive psychoanalytic ideas that impact and advance our work with patients, within mental health organizations, and in society at large. NCSPP provides the connection I need to counterbalance the isolation often felt in the face of the hours I provide each week to my patients. This organization invites me to think deeply about my work in consultation with esteemed colleagues who possess some of the most gifted minds I will ever know. As a longtime NCSPP member, I have attended many workshops, salons, and analytic meetings where I developed meaningful professional partnerships as well as lifetime friendships.
In a time when we have become polarized politically and divided socially, I hope that here, in my own professional backyard, I can continue to build bridges with our local training institutions and bring “progressive psychoanalysis to the people,” as Lewis Aaron and Karen Starr have encouraged wisely. I am eager to continue NCSPP's investment in facilitating educational and social events that advance social justice and strengthen mental health in our community. During these tumultuous times, I encourage our members to take advantage of important opportunities to share our professional values and to promote a path toward learning, healing, and growing that will cultivate peace, integration, and alliance. The practice of psychoanalysis is positioned to profoundly enhance the well-being of everyone, including those who are marginalized and disenfranchised.
I applaud the fort da committee members for their efforts toward publishing this respected body of work, and I'm grat
